Man Utd Vs Tottenham

Hi Folks,

Well tonight's match is an early heavyweight clash between Man Utd and Tottenham. This is our first chance to look at Tottenham this season, as their opening day match was postponed due to the riots. Tottenham have played one game so far, and that was a Europa league play-off with Hearts which they won 5-0. However, Hearts were poor and the gulf in class was vast, so it is hard to judge Tottenham on that performance. Lets have a look at some stats.

For the last 6 league matches Man Utd have won 4, scoring 12 goals and conceding 6, keeping 1 clean sheet. They have failed to score in 1 match and only lost 1. Tottenham have won 2 of their last 6 league matches, scoring 8 goals and conceding 7, they kept 1 clean sheet. They also failed to score on 1 occasion and lost 2 matches. So Man Utd have the edge over the last 6 games.

For Man Utd last 6 home matches, they have won all 6, scoring 12 goals and conceding 4, keeping 3 clean sheets. They have failed to score in 0 matches. Tottenham's last 6 away games have yielded 1 win. They have scored 7 goals and conceded 9 goals, keeping 2 clean sheets. They have lost 3. So again Man Utd have the edge.

The overall success of both teams last season was 75% vs 60.5%
And the overall success of Man Utd at home was 97.37% (1 draw). The overall success of Tottenham away was 50%. Looking at the average goals per game for these two teams last season, we have a goal expectancy for this match of 2.97.

So overall last season Man Utd scored 78 goals, conceded 37. They kept 40% clean sheets and scored in 87% of matches. Tottenham scored 55 goals, conceded 46. They kept 21% clean sheets and scored in 79% of matches. So again Man Utd have the edge.

Man Utd's overall home record last season was W18D1L0, they scored 49 goals in 19 games (2.58) and conceded 12 in 19 games (0.63). They kept 10 clean sheets. This is an awesome record.

Tottenham's overall away record last season was W7D5L7, they scored 25 goals in 19 games (1.32) and conceded 27 in 19 games (1.42). They kept 3 clean sheets.

So far all the stats suggest a Man Utd win, and the omens do not look good for Tottenham when you look at the H2H stats.

In the premiership history (38 matches), Man Utd have W27D8L3. At Old Trafford it is even worse for Tottenham. Man Utd have W16D3L0, and Man Utd have won the last 5 at Old Trafford.

Man Utd:- There is no Ferdinand and Vidic, after their injuries in the opening match of the season. Also Hernandez is sidelined. It is likely that Smalling and Jones will start, both are outstanding new, young defenders. Apart from that I don't think Man Utd have any other injury problems.

Tottenham:- Luka Modric will not play as apparently his head is not right, whatever that means. For £100000 a week, I am sure my head would be right and I would be 100% committed!!!! Ledley King, William Gallas and Alan Hutton are also ruled out.

Comments:- Spurs have not won at Old Trafford since Gary Lineker played in 1989. The stats are not on the sides of spurs, and even though Ferdinand and Vidic are injured I just can't see Spurs getting a win here tonight. I can't even see them getting a point. Looking at the stats, Spurs only kept 3 clean sheets away from home last year and Man Utd scored 49 goals at home last season. Saying that though I do fancy Tottenham to score tonight, what with the uncertain De Gea in goal for Man Utd. If I was Redknapp I would make sure the Spurs players put him under pressure. Brad Freidel starts in goal for Spurs, and I think that speaks volumes for Redknapp's faith in Gomez. Brad Freidel is getting on now, but he still is an excellent shot stopper. However, I don't think even his heroics will be able to keep Man Utd out tonight.

I will lay the draw for 5% of bank and also lay under 2.5 goals.

Happy Trading
