US OPEN 2107 1st Half

Hi folks,

The US Open starts today, so I thought I would have a look at the draw and try to pick a few contenders. The first half of the draw has Nadal and Federer, however, the second half of the draw is wide open, with no Murray and no Djokovic.

So lets have a look and try to predict the quarter finals and eventual winner.

1st Half of the draw.

There is a potential for some good matches here. Nadal should easily come through his first and second round matches, before he faces Gasquet in the third round. Gasquet could give him a test, but with the best of 5 sets I think Nadal will win this. He then should have a potential match against Berdych. Poor Berdych has a shocking record against Nadal, ever since he sssshhhh the home crowd when he beat Nadal in 2006. I can only see one winner here and that is Nadal. 

The other main contender for this half of the draw is dimitrov, he finally won his first 1000 tournament the other week, to get the 'monkey' off his back. His draw is not to bad, he could potentially play Goffin or Monfils in the 4th Round. Over 5 sets I think he would have too much for either opponent and he will make it through to the quarterfnals

1st QF - Nadal Vs Dimitrov

Federer has looked back to his best this season, He will potential play Lopez in the 3rd round. Lopez has had a good season, but I think the way federer is playing, I can't see Lopez winning this one. Then Federer would potential play Kyrigos. This has the potential to be a great match. Kyrigos showed the other week against Nadal, that on his day he is an awesome talent. However, can he keep the consistency up. I think over 5 sets Federer will be too good. 

The other main contender in this part of the draw is Theim. He is one of the next gen players. He should get through his first three matches ok until he will potentially face Del Potro in the 4th Round. Del Potro has been very unfortunate with injuries throughout hos carer. This should be a good match, but over 5 sets and the way he has been playing recently, I think Thiem will win this to set up a match with Federer.
