Attack Vs Defence

Blackpool Vs Hull
The Friday night glamour tie this week is from the championship. This match pits the 2nd best scorers in the division, Blackpool, against the team with the best defence, Hull. Which will come out on top, attack or defence? Let’s have a look at the stats.
Blackpool are 4th in the league on 55pts and Hull are 9th, with 51pts. However, Hull have two games in hand.

If we look at the success rate, the teams are fairly evenly matched. However, home vs. Away success rate is in Blackpool’s favour, as is the home vs. Away winning percentage. Hull tend to score more first half goals, and Blackpool score more second half goals.

Looking at goals scored per game, Blackpool have an overwhelming advantage. However, looking at goals conceded per game, Hull are miles ahead. In fact Hull have not conceded a goal in the last 6 matches, and Blackpool have not kept a clean sheet. As we can see Hull keep more clean sheets than Blackpool but have failed to score in 50% of their last 12 and 6 matches.

Looking at the overall form, both teams have 15 wins apiece, but Hull have lost more games and drawn less matches than Blackpool. Looking at current form, Blackpool have 13pts, with 4 wins, 1 draw and 1 loss. Hull have 12pts, with 3 wins and 3 draws. Looking at home vs. away form, Blackpool are ahead with wins in the last 12 and 6 matches. The last 6 matches away from home have seen Hull lose 3 of them.

Looking at the scoring and conceding times, both teams score and conceded more in the 2nd half. Also Hull score more goals in the 1st half than Blackpool, 19.23% vs. 41%. Also Blackpool concede more in the 1st half. 46% vs. 25%

Hull score 1st in more games than Blackpool and Blackpool concede 1st in more games than Hull.
Looking at the H2H’S, the last 8 matches have produced 5 Blackpool wins and only 2 Hull wins. Blackpool have won 3 of the last 4 home matches against Hull and Blackpool have won 3 of the last 4 matches overall against Hull
Verdict:- So who will win, attack or defence. Blackpool’s odds are around 2.2. I don’t fancy laying the draw as Hull’s defence is very strong, they have kept 6 clean sheets in a row and have not conceded in 4 of the last 6 away matches. However, I don’t fancy backing Hull as they have only scored 3 in the last 6 away matches. Blackpool have scored in 5 of their last 6 home matches, but have conceded in their last 4 games at home, they also tend to concede 1st. Taking this into account I think this could be a very tight game, maybe a draw or even a 0-1 to Hull. Therefore, I think I will lay Blackpool for 2.5% of bank, and look to hedge out for a profit after 30-45 minutes. If Blackpool score early I will lay them with another 2.5% of bank, just in case Hull score. I might also consider laying over 2.5 goals in this game
